Incoming 7th-9th Grade Student Registration

The steps below contain important information for incoming 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students enrolling at Morgan Park High School for the 2024-2025 school year:

1. Registration / Enrollment: Point of Contact: Ms. Porscha Ellis ([email protected])
Everything begins with the Registration / Enrollment process. Your student needs to be fully registered at Morgan Park High School, and have completed the in-person Registration / Enrollment process, to participate in any of the programs below.  Students who do not complete the Registration / Enrollment process will not have schedules on Day 1 of the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Incoming Academic Center Students (7th and 8th Grade students) must have accepted a seat through GoCPS for acceptance for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Incoming 9th Grade Students must have:
    • Accepted a seat through GoCPS, or
    • Live within Morgan Park’s Attendance Area
 

The Registration / Enrollment process is complete when your student has selected courses for the 2024-2025 school year. If your student has selected courses in April / May, you are done with this process and can review the summer opportunities below. 

If you have yet to complete the Registration / Enrollment process, please review these required steps:

 

Step 1: Complete the Online Registration Form

This form provides Morgan Park High School with your student’s demographic and contact information to expedite the registration process.  This form must be completed before finalizing your student’s enrollment, in-person, in Step 2.

Step 2: Attend an In-Person Registration Session & Choose Classes
Families will attend a Group Registration Session.

For Group Registration Sessions, families must bring hard copies of the required registration documents.  The required documents are linked below: 

 
Group Registration Dates:
    • Wednesday, July 31 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. (open enrollment)
    • Thursday, August 1, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (open enrollment)
    • Tuesday, August 6 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (open enrollment)
    • Wednesday, August 7, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. (open enrollment)
  • Group Registration Sessions will include personnel from Morgan Park Athletics, JROTC, & other stakeholders. 
 
2. Freshman Connection Dates & Sign-Up: Point of Contact: Mr. Anton Collins ([email protected])
Freshman Connection is a highly-recommended, free, week-long program for incoming 9th Grade Students at Morgan Park High School. Freshman Connection helps students orient themselves to high school, meet Morgan Park’s Staff, get acquainted with the building and campus, sample high school classes, learn about opportunities at Morgan Park High School, and learn the CPS Graduation Requirements & expectations.  Building a strong school culture, and delivering a comprehensive and developmental summer curriculum is vital to helping to create a successful high school experience.  Please see the details below:

There are two week-long options for Freshman Connection.  The CPS Application below will not permit families to choose a specific week; additional communication will be sent by the close of school for families to choose their week for Freshman Connection attendance.  

    • Week One: July 15th - July 19th; 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    • Week Two : July 22nd - July 26th; 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Information regarding Academic Center Connection for incoming 7th and 8th Grade students will be available by June 1, 2024. 

 

3. Summer of Algebra Dates & Sign-Up: Point of Contact: Mrs. Michelle Redmond ([email protected])  

The CPS Summer of Algebra Program is for current 8th Grade students who are attending 9th Grade in the Fall of 2024 at Morgan Park. This program is ideal for students who are currently taking Algebra in 8th Grade, but are unsure if they will pass the Algebra Exit Exam.  This program is designed for students who have mastered some, but not all, Algebra content, or students who may pass the Algebra Exit Exam, but would like to strengthen their understanding before 9th Grade.  Please see the program details below:

  • The program runs from June 24th - July 23rd; no class on July 4th
  • The hours are 9:00 a.m - 2:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • The program is free of cost.

  • Students participating in Summer of Algebra are encouraged to sign up for Freshman Connection during the Week of July 22nd to participate in both experiences.

6. Incoming Student Orientation & Start of School Information:

Incoming 7th / 8th / 9th Grade Student Orientation is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 15th. Families will receive a finalized date / time by July 1, 2024.  

 

The first day of school is Monday, August 26th at 7:30 a.m.  Morgan Park recommends that students arrive early on Day 1 to provide extra time to enter the building and arrive to classes.
